New campaign against parvovirus aims to raise public awareness, vigilance

Raising awareness about the often-fatal puppy disease and encouraging the public to be vigilant about it is the driving force behind a new campaign.

Elanco Animal Health Inc. has launched an educational initiative today, April 23, marking it as the inaugural National Parvo Awareness Day. In conjunction, the pharmaceutical company has introduced its “Parvo is Poop” consumer-focused campaign, which aims to highlight how the virus spreads, its symptoms, and the availability of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) conditionally approved treatment for parvovirus (parvo).

Further to the company’s goal to increase education and conversation about the virus, an online parvovirus tracking tool, ParvoTrack – powered by Elanco, has launched to help pet owners and veterinary professionals in identifying outbreaks and preventing exposure.

“Parvo is exhausting, devastating and scary—it’s just crappy, in every sense of the word,” says Jennifer Miller, DVM, technical veterinarian, Elanco. “That’s why I’m so proud of the work Elanco is doing to increase education and conversation about the grave consequences of parvo. There are simple steps we can take right now to help save puppies.”

This initiative is part of Elanco’s multi-year ‘Defend Puppies. Defeat Parvo.’ campaign to save a million puppies by 2030. For more information, visit Elanco’s website.
